In an increasingly busier work environment there is more pressure than ever for employees to go above and beyond for their employer. Do you find yourself stressed out? Working longer hours? Bringing work home? Ultimately having less time for yourself. Getting that work-life balanced right can be difficult.
1) Work Smarter Not Harder
Do you know exactly what you plan to achieve each day? People vary but I find that a daily agenda of what exactly I am going to get done and what is priority is essential. It gives a sense of accomplishment at the end of each day and stops you jumping between tasks. You all have those days that slip away because you tried to do too much and nothing got finished.
2) Leave work at work
Bringing work home means you never fully switch off. You are more stressed. Your life is your work. Learn to switch off from work. Don’t check your email after 6pm. Say “No” if it can wait until morning. (I’m aware this may not always be feasible). A less stressed employee is a more productive employee. If you are available 24/7 to your boss, you are ultimately going to be overworked and stressed.
3) Sleep
Too much coffee and not enough sleep. This is a common theme in most offices. There is not enough emphasis placed on a good night’s sleep. You may need 7 or 8 hours depending on your makeup. If you are finding that you are fading in the afternoons, try going to bed an hour earlier. A 20 minute nap at lunch (where possible) is far more beneficial than a 20 minute “lie in” in the morning. (I would recommend not doing this at your desk). At Abrivia we are committed to connecting you to a job in your field that will allow you to have the work-life balance that you desire.
