As a recently returned Irish expat from Australia who successfully secured a new role before returning, I would like to share some of my learnings in regards sourcing a role at home from abroad.
- Get your CV right
Make sure your CV is laid out clearly and includes all the experience you got from overseas. Make sure to highlight your achievements – this will help you stand out from other applicants. There are great companies out there that can assist in writing your CV, especially if you are like me and just don’t know where to start.
- Update your LinkedIn status
Make sure you are open to opportunities and enter the location you will be seeking employment.
- Start applying for jobs before your departure
Lots of companies are open to skype interviews and it’s never too early – companies will wait for the right candidate.
- Keep a spreadsheet
Keep a spreadsheet of the roles that you apply for to avoid any duplication.
- Be patient –
Allow yourself time to apply for suitable jobs (there is no point in applying for everything) and to hear back from job advertisements.
Best of luck in moving home and securing a fantastic role 😊
