Below are 7 key interview tips to help you land your dream job.
1. Preparation is Key
Prepare answers to obvious questions. For example, be sure to know your strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments inside out.
2. Dress to Impress
It is always better to err on the side of caution in regards what to wear to your interview. Being overdressed is a much better scenario than the interviewer perceiving you as shabby and not really caring.
3. Be enthusiastic
Rarely will you get hired in the corporate world unless you display some enthusiasm and passion in regards the job on offer.
4. Exude confidence and success
Focus on your achievements, how you overcame obstacles in the past and how you added to the bottom line of previous employers. This will also exude a sense of confidence and success traits which most potential employers are looking for.
5. Identify and sell your USP’s
Your unique selling points is normally a combination of your key strengths. It is important to have 5-6 key strengths at the ready, being able to show examples of each and align these strengths to the position you are targeting.
6. Stick to the point
It is rare that an interviewer will appreciate long rambling answers to their well thought out questions. Keep focussed on the question being asked. Give an answer and try and substantiate your answer with an example. Then move onto the next question.
7. Set objectives and keep focussed
It is important to set an objective or objectives prior to your interview and focus on whether you are achieving these objectives throughout the interview. An example of a good objective would be to prove to the interviewer that you possess the skills, experience and motivation which are most closely aligned to the job on offer. As you answer each question consider whether your answer is bringing you closer to this objective. Be sure to use the summation opportunity at the end of an interview to re-emphasise these objectives.
The above list is by no means exhaustive but should be used as a good starting point to commence your interview preparation
