72% HR professionals are planning to change jobs
Our recently released 2016 salary survey highlighted that 72% HR professionals are planning to change jobs.
72% of HR Professionals surveyed are planning to change jobs in 2016 (the highest percentage of all professionals surveyed).
So, what are their chances of finding that dream new job?
While the above percentage may seem shockingly high to some, I’m not overly surprised by the figures. Unfortunately, due to job market circumstances, many HR professionals career trajectory stagnated in the last few years. Due to limited internal promotion opportunities, as many HR functions are small in headcount in Ireland, HR professionals have traditionally moved externally every few years to gain that next step on the career ladder.
In recessionary times these opportunities were extremely limited. Now the Irish economy is back in growth mode, 2015 was by far the best year for the HR job market since per-recession times with a significant increase in activity across all specialties and levels.
The number of HR jobs has steadily increased and all signs point to this continuing for 2016.
Great! More HR jobs available in the market. However, the competition is increasing too. As those HR professionals that have been ‘stuck’ in roles with no progression for the last few years realise there are opportunities out there and therefore seek that external move up the ladder.
Our salary survey and job market research showed that some particular skills were in high demand:
- HR Business Partners, specifically with ICT sector or EMEA experience
- HR Managers/Business Partners willing to consider interim or contract roles
- In-house Recruitment Specialists (at all levels)
- Reward/Compensation & Benefits Specialists (at all levels)
- Learning & Development Managers
- HR Administrators (with 1 – 3 years HR experience)
So, if your skills fall into the above list you are likely to find there will be some great job opportunities for you in 2016. However, if you are one of the 72% of HR professionals looking to change jobs this year and your skills/experience are outside of the above list then you need to expect some competition for those really sought after roles.
