81% of candidates seek out company reviews from reputable sources prior to attending an interview, according to the findings of the 2017 Abrivia Salary Survey. 79% who read company reviews prior to interview stated that a negative review would influence their decision to attend an interview or accept a role.
Therefore, companies should pay more attention to how they are appearing on employer review sites as this could pose as a major impediment to attracting top talent into their organisations. Overall, Glassdoor was the most popular company review site. This was closely followed by Irish Jobs and then Indeed and Twitter. Depending on a person’s sector of expertise the ranking sequence of these review sites differed.
Amongst those in the Accounting sector Irish Jobs is by far the most popular employer review site whereas in the ICT space, Glassdoor is the runaway leader when it comes to a reference source for company reviews. Irish Jobs hits the top spot amongst Finance, Banking and Insurance candidates but Glassdoor is the overwhelming choice amongst HR practitioners. Sales people prefer Irish Jobs (although only marginally) whereas most marketing people will consult the Glassdoor website.
The importance of a good company review is now critical to attracting top talent to your organisation so why not spend a valuable hour reviewing what is said online about working in your organisation and compare your score to that of your competitors. I suggest it will be an hour well spent.
