The March live register figures show a 9.5% drop in Irish unemployment when compared to March 2015. This represents a decrease of 33,076 people no longer on the Live Register when compared to the same month last year.
Male claimants fell by a huge 12.1%(-25,705) whilst female claimants fell by 5.4%(-7,371). Even more welcome was the news that long term male claimants fell by a massive 14.7% whilst long term female claimants fell by 7.2%. The number of people in the Under 25 age category claiming assistance also fell by 18.4%.
The March CSO release also points to a notable recovery in construction related jobs when compared to March 2015. When you delve in deeper into the report and focus on the last occupation held by those on the Live Register, it is notable that those stating Craft and Related fell by an impressive 13.6%
