Job Title: Head of Underwriting Operations
Location: Dublin
Working Model: Hybrid – 2 days in the office
Abrivia are currently recruiting for a Head of Underwriting Operations to join our client in Dublin. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing underwriting operational teams, driving technical excellence and ensuring underwriting activity supports profitability, risk appetite and regulatory compliance.
Your Role
- Lead and develop underwriting operational teams, driving high technical standards and consistent performance
- Act as the senior referral point for complex risk decisions across all lines of business
- Oversee day-to-day underwriting operations, ensuring quality control, measurable outcomes and performance reporting
- Support delivery of financial targets by ensuring underwriting discipline aligns with profitability and growth objectives
- Drive operational excellence through process improvement and efficiency initiatives
- Strengthen collaboration between underwriting and distribution to maximise commercial effectiveness
- Represent the underwriting function at senior management level and across cross-functional forums
- Ensure all underwriting activity operates within a strong governance and regulatory control framework
Your Skills
- Extensive experience in general insurance underwriting with strong technical knowledge across motor, property and liability classes
- Proven track record managing underwriting or operational teams at senior level
- Deep understanding of underwriting processes, risk selection and portfolio management principles
- Experience operating within a regulated environment with strong knowledge of governance and control requirements
- Strong commercial judgement with excellent analytical and numerical capability
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance and deliver measurable outcomes
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and Board level
- Third level qualification and professional insurance qualification
