Job Title: Technical Underwriter

Abrivia are currently recruiting for a Technical Underwriter to join our client within the commercial insurance sector. This is a technical role focused on strengthening underwriting standards across Commercial Property and Casualty lines, while acting as a subject matter expert within the wider underwriting function.
Working closely with underwriting, claims, and reinsurance colleagues, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping underwriting frameworks, supporting portfolio performance, and providing technical guidance across the business. This position is suited to an experienced underwriter with strong technical judgement and a collaborative approach.
Your Role
- Support the implementation and ongoing review of underwriting standards and risk appetite across commercial lines.
- Document and maintain underwriting guidelines, ensuring alignment with market conditions and business strategy.
- Analyse portfolio performance and market trends, producing insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Review and enhance product wordings, schemes, and acceptance criteria as required.
- Act as a technical referral point for complex underwriting queries from underwriting, claims, legal, and distribution teams.
- Engage with reinsurance partners and internal stakeholders to support appropriate coverage and risk management.
- Develop and deliver technical underwriting training to underwriting and sales teams.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects as a technical underwriting representative.
Your Skills
- Strong experience in a technical underwriting or risk acceptance environment.
- Strong knowledge of Commercial Property and Casualty products and market practices.
- CIP qualified as a minimum; MDI or ACII desirable.
- Proven ability to assess complex risks and make sound technical underwriting decisions.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence and build strong stakeholder relationships.
- Customer-focused mindset with an understanding of how underwriting decisions impact customer journeys.
