A recent survey conducted by LinkedIn amongst employees in the Irish Financial Services and Insurance markets focussed on the sole question “What is important to candidates when considering a job?”. The most popular answer was work-life balance. This was closely followed by compensation and benefits.
There then existed a considerable gap in terms of popularity before the next two key drivers were identified; namely job security and a strong career path. Bottom of the list in terms of popularity are Internal Transfer opportunities and a company with a strategic vision.
What does this mean in terms of writing job specifications?
Obviously as the two most important drivers are work-life balance and compensation and benefits, these should be placed front and centre in your job advert in order to gain maximum attention. As the lowest talent drivers are strategic vision and internal transfer opportunities, it could be argued that these should be left off the job specification altogether or at least put at the very bottom of the job description.
In essence, there exists a huge opportunity for companies in the Irish Financial Services and Insurance markets to really differentiate themselves by putting work-life balance benefits front and centre in job adverts in order to attract the maximum number of candidates for key positions.
