Gary Neville recently made the move into football management and after a disastrous couple of months it may be over before it started, considering the harsh reality of football management. With Barcelona’s 7-0 demolition of Valencia adding to an already awful start to his campaign Gary may be returning to Sky studios sooner than expected. It is enough to make you wonder is it time for a career change?
How can we be sure not to do a “Gary” on it in a world where we received the following messages on a routine basis: “An exciting role in the city centre has just arisen and we need someone with your skillset to join us? Attractive salary and package.
Great place to work. Great reputation.” Sound familiar?
In a world where you are approached about a new job on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, email, phone among others on a frequent basis how do we know what is the right move for us?
I think this can be decided under 3 key points:
- Happiness
Are you happy in your current role? If the answer is “No” then chances are that it is time for a change. A simple conclusion to an often overlooked reason to be in a company.
- Money
Am I being paid the market rate? With 89% of employers (source Abrivia salary survey) planning to pay their employees more. It may be time to look elsewhere is you are not getting the market rate. - Progression
Is your role challenging or do you feel there is no chance of progression within your current role. Then it may be time to look at your options.
