Abrivia Recruitment have over ten years’ experience placing temporary staff in the office support sector.
Temp roles often lead to longer term contracts or permanency so always bear this in mind when temping. Don’t just view the temp assignment as a stop gap. Think of it as a working interview which may lead to something longer term.
Here are our tip tips for temping
Tip 1: Flexibility
Temp work often arises with little notice so be prepared to be flexible and be ready to go at a moment’s notice. If you are registered with an agency always have your mobile close to hand and returns calls immediately.
Tip 2: Reliability
Employers are often heavily reliable on the temp as they may be covering reception/sick leave etc. so it is imperative to be punctual, reliable and to complete your assignment.
Tip 3: Dress code:
First impressions last – dress for your temp assignment the same as you would for first day starting a permanent role.
Tip 4: Attitude:
A positive and enthusiastic attitude will go a long way. Be open to taking on additional duties and if you are not busy don’t be afraid to ask for more work.
Tip 5: Network:
Take time to get to know people in the business, you never know who else in the business may be looking for a temp in the future
Tip 6: Be professional
While temping stay off social media and your emails. Put your phone away don’t take personal calls/texts.
Temping can be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience and can give you the opportunity to get your foot in the door to great organisations.
