Discerning what style of management, you adhere to is an important question in management interviews, as a potential employer will use to try and determine will you fit into the culture of his/her organisation.
The key to answering this question is to prepare your answer with examples into how your management style helped to motivate employees in order to achieve their goals. This may have occurred as a result of positive re-enforcement or simple empowerment. Focus on how you inspired your team, how you followed a successful plan and how you led your team along this journey. A key part of this journey should focus on how you and your team overcame stumbling blocks and how your communication style was critical in this regard. Finally, the method and frequency of how you measured progress of your team should play an important part in these examples.
Very few employers are deliberating seeking out an autocratic “I say, they do, or else I threaten or fire them” type of manager as this often leads to demoralisation and conflict in the organisation. Leading by example and inspiring a team to achieve their goals is typically the most attractive candidate to a potential employer in this regard.
