According to the Abrivia Salary Survey 2019, 80% of engineering firms granted a pay increase in 2018. Out of this 80%, 42% of firms granted an increase of less than 3%. A further 33% granted a pay rise of between 3% and 5% and a whopping 25% granted a salary increase of more than 5% for its employees. This makes the engineering sector the most generous in terms of pay increases in 2018. This is testament to the recovery in the Irish construction sector and the huge demand for engineers as a direct consequence.
89% of ICT firms granted a pay increase in 2018. 27% of firms granted an increase less than 3% and 37% of firms granted an increase of between 3% and 5%. 24% granted an increase of between 5% and 10% and a generous 4% of employers granted a salary increase greater than 10%.
In the Insurance, Compliance and Risk sector 97% of firms granted pay increases but were more modest in their generosity when compared to Ireland’s ICT sector, with nearly half of all firms in this sector providing salary increases of less than 3%.
All legal firms who responded to the survey granted salary increases in 2018 with the majority of increases being in the 3-5% band (73%).
Three quarters of firms in the marketing sector granted pay increases in 2018. Approximatively half granted increases of less than 3% and the remainder granted increases of between 3% and 5%.
The Finance and Banking sector felt very generous in 2018, with 87% of Finance and Banking firms awarding salary increases with the majority being in the 3% to 5% bracket (54%). A notable 15% granted an increase of between 5% and 10% and a handful of firms (2%) gave its employees salary increases in excess of 10%.
In 2018 the most generous sectors were the Engineering and ICT sectors and this trend is set to continue into 2019.
