Job Title: Senior Actuary
Location: Dublin
Working Model: Hybrid
Abrivia are currently recruiting for a Senior Actuary to join an established international insurance business in Dublin. This is a broad, hands-on role with responsibility for supporting actuarial activity across the Irish and UK operations, working closely with senior management and a wider international actuarial function.
The successful candidate will act as the principal actuarial resource within the Dublin business. Reserving will be a key part of the position, alongside regulatory reporting, portfolio analysis, reinsurance and wider business support. The role would suit someone who enjoys working independently, getting close to the underlying business and taking a practical approach to identifying and solving issues.
Your Role
- Take ownership of local reserving activity, including claims triangles, reserve adequacy, IBNR and loss-ratio analysis.
- Support actuarial requirements across both the Irish and UK businesses.
- Review claims experience and work with Claims colleagues to understand trends, processes and potential areas for improvement.
- Support Solvency II, IFRS 17 and other actuarial and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Analyse portfolio performance, profitability and emerging trends and communicate findings clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Work closely with Finance, Claims, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Risk and other functions across the business.
- Support analysis relating to both inward and outward reinsurance arrangements.
- Review actuarial data, reconciliations and controls and help resolve data-quality or process issues.
- Provide practical recommendations and solutions rather than simply identifying technical issues.
- Contribute to wider business, technology and process-improvement projects where appropriate.
Your Skills
- Qualified or nearly qualified actuary with a recognised actuarial qualification.
- Strong reserving experience and a good understanding of claims development, IBNR and loss-ratio methodologies.
- Insurance-sector actuarial experience. Candidates from both General Insurance and Life Insurance backgrounds will be considered.
- Knowledge of Solvency II, IFRS 17 and actuarial reporting requirements would be beneficial.
- Exposure to reinsurance would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work confidently with complex or imperfect data.
- Comfortable operating independently as the principal actuarial resource within a smaller local team.
- Commercial and practical approach with the ability to identify issues and work through appropriate solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to explain actuarial matters to non-actuarial colleagues.
- An interest in technology, process improvement, automation or AI would be advantageous.
