Financial Accountant – Permanent

Abrivia Recruitment is partnering with an organisation in the insurance and financial services sector to recruit a Financial Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a well-established, international business operating within the life insurance sector.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior finance leadership and will take ownership of key financial accounting, reporting and control activities. The role involves a mix of hands-on finance work and strategic input, with responsibility across month-end reporting, statutory accounts, audit, tax, cash management and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the financial month-end process and produce financial accounts for management review.

  • Complete monthly reconciliations to ensure the accounting system is complete and accurate.

  • Own balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timely resolution of reconciling items.

  • Review and challenge balance sheet positions and provisions.

  • Produce quarterly departmental performance reporting for functional heads.

  • Prepare annual statutory financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist with cash flow forecasting, liquidity management and effective cash management controls.

  • Coordinate the year-end financial reporting process and associated audit deliverables.

  • Assist with the preparation and review of corporation tax, VAT and other relevant tax returns.

  • Liaise with external tax advisers to support compliance with local tax obligations.

  • Ensure finance processes and controls are fully documented and adhered to, identifying control gaps and recommending improvements.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, reporting and controls.

  • Assist with the annual budgeting process.

  • Monitor developments in relevant accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Research technical accounting matters and provide guidance to management where required.

  • Liaise with external auditors and support external audit, internal audit and regulatory review processes.

  • Provide ad-hoc support to the CFO and Group Financial Controller and contribute to finance-related projects as required.

Requirements:

  • Qualified accountant from a recognised professional accounting body, with a strong academic background and track record.

  • Strong accounting and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and manage multiple competing deadlines.

  • Proactive, diligent and solutions-focused approach with a strong work ethic.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and confidence challenging existing processes where appropriate.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within an international and culturally diverse team environment.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within the insurance sector.

  • Knowledge of Solvency II.

  • Strong technical knowledge of FRS 102, FRS 103 and/or IFRS 17.

  • Previous experience using Infor SunSystems or a similar accounting system.

  • Power BI experience.
